I'm so sick of the "Hatter is Alices best friend 5ever" plots - I dont have an issue w/ changing chara dynamics overall, but this specific one is used so much, w/ no basis in book + it almost always sidelines exploring other charas in any new ways. dont get me started on Hatter + Alice romance plots

He's The Tortoise from The Tortoise and The Hare (Morris the March Hare is the Hare in this scenario) He and Morris hatch a revenge plot on the surviving members of the hero's cast from the first musical and over the course of a narrative about grief and moving on, they have a budding romance

Also also, it's very funny how The Mad Hatter is named after an occupation, but he is a character with multiple jobs. Not only is he a Hatter, but he also is a performer and a messenger for the White King. Like damn boy. (Granted, he is self describedly poor)

which makes Haigha constantly pissing off the White King and Hatta trying to commit unspecified crimes so much funnier imo, like he can't fire them because of politics, so he's just stuck with the worst messengers in the queendom

This is also an explanation on how Haigha/Hare + Hatta/Hatter got their jobs as messengers for the White King in TTLG - since March is from Looking Glass Land and is high ranking, it was just nepotism. Haigha the nepo-baby

I think the funniest thing I have done for my Alice in Wonderland adaptation thus far is make the March Hare a marquess
