When I am in charge of publishing, clicking a reference link in a paper will always open a new tab, and not shoot you down to the reference section so you don't lose your spot when reading the paper. #Academia

Lots of unanswered questions for now, but wondering how audience feedback will throw off concurrent speakers. E.g. laughter at a joke from one speaker, applause from a talk that ends earlier than another, question and answers?

For the upcoming @thewildlifesociety.bsky.social conference I am concerned about "silent sessions". As a speaker I rely pretty heavily on live audience feedback, and not knowing who in my audience is listening to me seems like a huge loss. #TWS2025

Fully agree with the argument. Devils advocate follow up: any coding language is just a way to interact with data. Could all the reasons you list ever be replaced with the "language" of prompt engineering?

Looking for ideas of places to pitch academic opinion pieces, particularly on the use of AI. Any thoughts?

Agreed, but I don't mind giving or receiving feedback on general structure or flow of ideas if it helps the communication of the science. As long as its not framed as a mandatory change, but rather suggestions at the authors discretion.

Scientific journals should not charge to publish response articles If a paper is published open access, responses that point out its flaws should not be hidden from readers behind a paywall, says Andrew Barnas
