The downside to dating someone who lives 43 miles away is undoubtedly the drive, whether in 3 p.m. traffic or 3 a.m. darkness. But he's totally worth it!

Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

Hours late to this, but what an unerring response. And imagine how different things might look if every university, every media organization, every independent corporation, every congressional committee met the current authoritarian overreach with similar clarity about their own rights and power.

NYT excerpt that reads:

In one early meeting, Mr. Musk said Mr. Smith was being too careful and offering โ€œclassic consultant stuff.โ€ In discussions, Mr. Musk expressed impatience with Mr. Smithโ€™s caution that the team would need a phalanx of lawyers to help with executive orders and regulations. Mr. Musk wanted to tear down the government to the studs, and saw Mr. Smithโ€™s approach as incremental.

The people, he said, voted for radical change. When someone asked at one point how Mr. Musk decided how to fire people at Twitter, he said he tried โ€œto figure out who you canโ€™t live without.โ€ โ€œWho are the people we have to keep?โ€ Mr. Musk said.

The group at Mar-a-Lago brainstormed ways to terminate federal workers. One idea was to motivate them to quit, by forcing them to return to the office five days a week or, as Mr. Ramaswamy suggested, moving civil servants to work on administration priorities like border security. Mr. Ramaswamy predicted to the team that many federal workers would not want to be part of an immigration crackdown and would leave government โ€” a win-win situation.

They discussed the likelihood of litigation and welcomed the idea that Democrats would sue them. They liked their chances with a Supreme Court that Mr. Trump had transformed in his first term, with a majority that now favored an expansive vision of executive power. The planning mirrored Mr. Muskโ€™s tactics during his takeover at Twitter, when his lieutenants rushed layoffs and said they were willing to risk lawsuits from former employees.

I'll yell until I'm blue in the face about this, but it's wild to see what @kateconger.com and I saw at Twitter, play out in the federal government.

Musk *welcomes* a challenge in court. He is willing to risk being sued. Everything flows from that mindset.

Exhibit 1 - 26 Feb 2025 OSD Policy โ€“ #63, Att. #1 in TALBOTT v. AVERILL, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY, TERENCE EMMERT, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE NAV...

Breaking: Trump's full trans military ban has just dropped. Quickly reading it, it appears to be a full separation from the military for all transgender military members, and states being trans is inconsistent with "honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity."

A sad day for this nation.

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt

The GOP passed a budget resolution tonight that will gut Medicaid, SNAP, and other vital programs โ€” as 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

Why? To finance more tax cuts for the top 1%.

We have socialism in this country for the rich, harsh capitalism for everyone else.
