Before there were β€œcolor match” refractors, there was the 1958 Topps Roberto Clemente, with its bright Pirates-yellow background. This crease-free example will be available on my Fabulous 40s and 50s Vintage Baseball and Football show, TODAY at 5 PM eastern, only on Whatnot!

Legend has it the ghost of Babe Ruth is on this 1957 Topps Mickey Mantle card. But really, it’s an unknown person who was airbrushed out. This crease-free copy will be available on my Fabulous 40s and 50s Vintage show, TOMORROW Monday 12/16 at 5 PM eastern, only on Whatnot!

Truly incredible how every song on this album is a masterpiece (except Smackwater Jack)

Stan Musial didn’t have a Topps card prior to 1958; in fact, he didn’t have any cards from 1955 to 1957. As the story goes, in 1958, Cardinals owner Gussie Busch asked Topps for a donation to charity. Sy Berger agreed to donate $1500 if Musial would agree to be on a Topps card. #CardSky 1/2

The term Gypsy was problematic for them. They tried a branding switch to GQ for 2022 but by that point cards didn’t even resemble their pre-war front runners. Easier to just kill the product.

These men have 3 things in common: they’re all in the College Football Hall of Fame, they’re all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and their cards will all be on my Fabulous 40s and 50s Vintage Baseball and Football show, Monday 12/16 at 5 PM eastern, only on Whatnot!

#OTD in 1965, longtime Dodgers executive Branch Rickey passed away. Rickey was the man who signed Jackie Robinson, created the farm system, and introduced the batting helmet. Here’s my only card of him. #CardSky

One of the greatest pitchers in Japanese history, Masaichi Kaneda is the only pitcher in NPB history to win 400 games. β€œThe Emporer” struck out nearly 4500 hitters in his career and had two no-hitters and a perfect game. #CardSky #collect #thehobby 1/2

Not always true! Sometimes there isn’t a number. For example, 1997-2005 Topps doesn’t have card #7. 1955 Topps doesn’t have #175, 186, 203 and 209. Etc.

Beatles went from Please please Me to the White Album in five years. If you’re talking about a 5-year run I don’t see how anything compares. You can pick any start and end point in their careers and the 5-year run beats any other IMO. Help! to Let It Be was also 5 years.

Bobby and Billy Shantz couldn’t have been more different, despite Billy being on the same team as his brother. 5’6” Bobby won the 1952 AL MVP and played for 16 seasons, winning 8 consecutive Gold Gloves and making 3 All-Star teams. Kid brother Billy was a towering 6’1”, but played in just 131 games.
