My first fix is that "The Force Awakens" should have been the third movie, not the first, and JJ Abrams shouldn't have been involved at all.

Here's the problem with your argument: THERE ARE NOT ONLY TWO OPTIONS.
The Whig Party went from dominant to NOTHING in less than a decade. One election swung their constituents to the Republicans.
