Might be getting my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled three days before my first lecture of the year. Going to be full chipmunk mode in front of 200 first year students. What could possibly go wrong.

Extremely valid!! Useful context I should've included was "when the term is used by cis people." More specifically, in an academic text. Which is perhaps why I was more cautious when reading it initially.

Yeah I think it might be context dependent. And maybe my gut reaction was because I've seen it used as an unnecessary qualifier, but that doesn't mean it can't be a useful term for distinguishing between groups
