For the incomplete films on this reel I used the year they were effectively scrapped for good as the release year. Sorry for those of you who wanted to see the original Que Viva Mexico, Bezhin Meadow, and Ivan Pt. III 🙏🫠

Loosely based on this self portrait, among other photographs. Most tragically, I made the difficult artistic decision to omit the ph*lic belt. (Sorry, Mr. Eisenstein.) This was an interesting way to get out of a major art block!! 😭

It is SUCH a shame that Joan Neuberger’s multimedia essay about the historical and biographical context of Eisenstein’s “Ivan the Terrible” films is really only available for public viewing on the Criterion Collection DVD release because MAN are those hard to find these days.

The bottom of the enclosed shelves is still sort of a WIP but this is where I keep my history and theory books as well as bound essays, dissertations, and academic work I’ve printed out for keeping. I’m also storing old sketchbooks from college here.

In the enclosed bookshelf in the sitting room I keep ALL my art compilation / artist books and of course… The Eisenstein collection. 😭💕 Books written by the master on the left, books ABOUT the master and his work on the right. 😌

My absolutely insane take of the day is that Eisenstein’s Fyodor Basmanov has notable connections to Glumov from Eisenstein’s very first film of 1923 more than twenty years prior and that they have a remarkably similar function in terms of their “plasticity” and motives.
