It’s a reminder of the sacred trust I carry. My desire to fashion my life in accordance to the Gospel, and to nourish Christ's people from the riches of his grace. I don't always live out gracefully, and I need these prayerful reminders.

One of the moments I treasure most as a priest is vesting for the Eucharist: the quiet ritual of prayer and preparation before stepping into mystery. Each short prayer as I vest draws me deeper into the grace of what we’re about to celebrate: the Sacrament of Love.

But God sees it all. God welcomes it all. And God longs to redeem it all with her boundless love.

Blessed All Hallow's Eve. Today we remember that all is sacred. We are all called to holiness - to friendship with God.

Even the parts of ourselves that feel like monsters and ghouls, the pieces we hide behind masks, the things we want to disguise afraid they’ll make us unlovable.

As I prepare to begin a new chapter as the next Rector of Grace in The Plains, I do so with a full heart. I go from Grace to Grace, confident that, in the words of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, “God’s grace is enough for me.”

I’m profoundly grateful for my time at Grace / La Gracia - a community that has loved me so well and taught me so much about what it means to be a priest. I love serving with and among the wonderful people of this congregation.

Friends, I have accepted the call to serve as the new Rector of Grace in The Plains (Virginia). I’m excited about this new chapter in my priestly ministry. My first day will be December 1st.

My prayer today is that Sheriff Casey and all Deputy Sheriffs may act with moral courage, uphold due process, and let compassion be their guiding compass."

That promise leads us here today.
In these troubling times, may we stand firm in hope, guided not by fear, but by faith. The faith that tells us we belong to one another, and that no one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy or our community’s care.

As Christians, and people of faith, we have promised to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being.

From my statement:
"Welcoming the stranger is not a political act. It is a sacred obligation. As people of faith we cannot turn away from the suffering of our neighbors. When faced with a choice between the demands of earthly power and the teachings of Jesus, we must follow Christ.

In the letter, we asked the Sheriff's Office to stop (1) holding people longer to allow for ICE to pick them up, (2) making courtesy calls to ICE, and (3) transferring people to ICE custody without judicial warrants.

We hand delivered a letter signed by 24 local groups and leaders in Alexandria demanding that Sheriff Sean Casey ends his practice of voluntarily collaborating with ICE. We wanted to give it to Sheriff Casey, but were denied access and we delivered it to Deputy Sheriffs.

I am grateful for the work of ICE Out of Alexandria, and thankful for being part of the press conference this morning outside the Sheriff's office.

As a Jesuit, I had the honor of living six months in Wiky, serving at this parish (Holy Cross) with the incredible Father Doug (Mac) McCarthy.

In their view, those structures were meant to foster authentic dialogue, discernment, and shared mission, but genuine dialogue, they argue, is impossible without truth. And false believers cannot have the truth.
