Shoud we be worried that Mark Zuckerberg built a multimillion dollar bunker in Hawaii. That Tr*mp is fortifying the White House bunker. And that several Tr*mp regime members moved onto military bases?

What a genius thing to say to a city that speaks 800 languages. (Literally.)

... even the term "drug cartel" itself is a fiction used to make criminal gangs that engage in drug trafficking seem bigger, more foreign, and more state-like than they really are.

A person I interviewed for this story told me her 8th grader recently read Night by Elie Wiesel in school and observed โ€œitโ€™s sort of like whatโ€™s happening here right nowโ€ in case youโ€™re wondering how things are going for Chicagoโ€™s kids.

One way to think about the tariffs is as a means for Trump (and his family) to establish leverage over other countries, which he can use to enrich himself and establish a separate base of power from Congress.

Governor Newsom advances government effectiveness and efficiency with new executive order, launches task force with tech industry leaders | Governor of California

His outrage would be more credible if he extended it to the California gazillionaires most openly complicit and enthusiastic in this coup. Yet he goes after vulnerable universities instead of his old funder, Peter Thiel. He puts Anduril and Coinbase on his state โ€œefficiencyโ€ panel.

Iโ€™m glad Gavin Newsom wants to be a liberal hero instead of a right-wing podcaster.

But why does he have so little to say about the tech oligarchs fueling and funding the fascist takeover? He cozies up to them, as do his closest advisors.

California incubated crypto corruption and tech fascism.

Trumpโ€™s campaign pitch to Americans used to include โ€œwhat do you have to loseโ€ and the answer is that no one has ever had more to lose and few have ever been so reckless with what they have

Why is it that every disappeared US citizen is not front page news? At the very least we should have a little box with a count of the number of citizens who have been taken away and are not locatable and a link to a story with photos & min-bios, just as we used to do with military casually figures.

In Portland, Oregon, masked ICE GOONS abducted and vanished US citizen Gonzalo Catalan last week. Tragically, his family remains unaware of his whereabouts and has not received any communication from him as of today.

But does anyone really believe that
the Gulf states developed in their autocratic, repressive and distributive forms in isolation from first British patronage and then
American security guarantees? The Arab world is virtually unique
in its absence of consolidated democracies. But why assume this is
because of something intrinsic to Arab culture rather than because
the United States invests considerable resources in ensuring that
friendly autocratic regimes will survive in order to enforce unpopular pro-American policies?

This is a piece of the Mamdani campaign that I think is really underdiscussedโ€”that in a moment of terror and despair, his premise is that standing up against fascism can be joyous.

I've built a socioeconomic system that depends on everyone to do useful work and act ethically except the people at the top, who get unimaginable rewards for being antisocial frauds and criminals. And I think it will stand the test of time

It wasnโ€™t so much what Zohran Mamdani said. It was how he said it.

โ€œWeโ€™re going to stand up for Haiti, because you taught the world about freedom!โ€ the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York exclaimed to an elated crowd at a Haitian music festival in June, fresh off his upset victory in the primary.

Mr. Mamdani pronounced the island nationโ€™s name โ€œAH-ee-teeโ€ โ€” near-perfect Creole elocution.

โ€œWhen I heard him say that, I smiled,โ€ recalled Brian Purnell, one of Mr. Mamdaniโ€™s former professors at Bowdoin College. He also noted that Mr. Mamdaniโ€™s reference to freedom was a nod to Haitiโ€™s status as the first republic founded by former slaves.

โ€œThatโ€™s straight out of the lessons from the Haitian Revolution that we teach in Africana studies,โ€ said Dr. Purnell, who is now the chair of the Africana studies department at Mr. Mamdaniโ€™s alma mater. โ€œI will claim that,โ€ he added with a laugh.

I lived it. Yeah it was crazy as fuck and so were the 70s but nothing comparable to the president having his own fully equipped masked armies invading the cities and all the major media controlled by network-state billionaires. This is waaay crazier.
