Yep. Even the newer stuff like Andor, that I'm almost positive I would enjoy, I just can't get the motivation to go watch because the internet basically sucked the joy out of Star Wars.

Yeah. I know we maybe use the phrase "media literacy" too much in 2025, but there's something to be said about the fact that soooo many people watched a movie that thematically ultimately affirmed their love of Star Wars, and instead they thought the villain's motivation was the film's ethos.

Their salaries aren't even the majority of their income. Insider trading, legalized bribes, book deals, paid speaking engagements, ect.

You can't just blame the 8. It's clear that the party hatched a plan. They chose 8 people, the minimum number of votes necessary, who weren't up for re-election, and had them vote for capitulation on behalf of the broader establishment. It's painfully obvious.

Did 8 respond poorly, or did the party select exactly the number of votes needed and fill them with people not up for re-election anytime soon so they could capitulate while pretending to give a shit?

He can vote as freely, safely, and privately as he likes. And we can absolutely judge him for being a party leader who refuses to get behind his party's candidate and the will of his constituency. Hope this helps.

We don't envy the oligarchs. We don't want what they have. We know that if there were justice NO ONE would have what they have. All we want is the most basic level of comfort and security.

The purpose of my original reply was to illustrate that the US, as a government, has been up to some kind of evil fuckery for the entire duration of its existence. Even when we were nominally fighting fascists in WWII, back home we had our own camps for rounding up Asian Americans.

The United States government is committing atrocious crimes against humanity every single day. They are rounding up en masse and effectively torturing people. This will all end up in a history book, and some kid will look back and wonder how people could do this to each other.

I'm equally pissed off seeing this kind of thing for the thousandth time as I was the first time.

I promise I'm not just trying to be argumentative. There have been great people who lived here and did great things. There have been moments where it looked like we might be headed the right way, but I hesitate to ever call the US as an entity a force for good.

Indigenous genocide, slavery, Jim Crow, Japanese internment, McCarthyism, redlining, Vietnam, the war on drugs, DHS, supporting Israel, and now full blown fascism- at what point was the US a force for good?

All the good ever done here was done by oppressed people fighting for their rights.
