game design, as soon as you think you have it all figured out an idea you have makes you have to learn something new.
learning never stops, it never ends

Indie Game Development for mobile/pc platforms. We are against microtransactions and subscriptions, even DLC's rub me wrong. Games should be finished in full at release with maybe minor bug updates that weren't noticed in testing.

90% im mostly waiting for my artist to finish college and she finishes it sometime in november.
only way i scrap it again is if it isn't fun
for those wondering why im not doing a patreon or kickstarter, its because im funding this all with my own money.
our monthly budget is around 1200$ for production.
since i code - that costs 0$
my artist - charges based on the asset
SFX/Music - still looking.
people still use cash in 2024?
31.10.2024 12:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0sorry for being quiet, working on game, testing animations.
again these are still placeholder assets
yeah, it also shows the devs are passionate but its the company stifling them... this is why i refuse to go the easy route and look for investors or go through a publisher.
if anything ill make a game thats worthy of being kick started or fund raised then plop it on steam
yea, i get why they don't want to leak it if they plan on adding it later, but they could always add like a PDF book or a physical one of the game design process of the game.
people love this type of stuff
yea, if i make a game thats a horror mystery esque, id probably have too much fun keeping people guessing.
could even add a twist at the end where the killer was "you" the entire time.
example a switch you flipped opened a door, but also dropped a piano on someone somewhere else.
depending on the murderers personality they may avoid making remarks like this, trying to blend in as much as possible while taking everyone out
they may even be an entity unknown to you hiding in the shadows.
sorry dev brain is hard to turn off.
a project like this would be quite massive even if it was single player.
noted.
Design ideas to make it work as single player.
realized.
Design ideas to make it work as multiplayer
realized.
fun factor - online play might be required to fully realize the game
Sandbox environs might be needed.
ok, so most games release in a timespan of 1-3 years.
Paying employees - $117,000 per employee
100-200 people - 11.7m-23.4m/year
out of a 50m$ budget
Marketing - 0.25-0.50 cents per $ spent.
you don't need this many chefs.
the ballooning game costs is due to them wanting it pushed out quickly.
i think ill go with an RPG genre
but ill pull a few mechanics from my dream game to make it stand out in the field.
after all i've literally played thousands of them, so if it's not fun ill at least be able to understand why
that sounds awesome, hope it goes well for you!
17.10.2024 19:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yea, with each revision my genre changes and the game becomes a bigger project, i just don't know what genre i want and i think that's the biggest issue
17.10.2024 19:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0im working on one but i don't have a set genre or sub genre in mind yet.
each iteration only seems to be making me mad, the first one wasn't fun, the second one approaches ethics because it requires server infrastructure.
so i think a version 3 overhaul with another layout is imminent
i'll work on a project of this scale eventually, for now im starting small to learn my engine and get comfy.
the game looks like it'll be fun, ill have to check it out
this is adorable!
17.10.2024 19:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0music composer for minecraft that made the vibe for the whole game got let go.
they havent found a musician able to hold a candle to him since.
these companies don't know what their losing until it's gone.
the talented should be rewarded, not fired.
i want to see this release, this looks like it'll be fun, plenty of different genres it could easily be made for as well
17.10.2024 18:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yeah its hard sometimes and more indie devs are getting active each year over 3,000 submissions this year
17.10.2024 18:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0this looks great so far!
17.10.2024 18:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yes, beta assets should be released imo, even if they add it as part of the game, its always fun to see
17.10.2024 18:50 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0nice, what ya making?
17.10.2024 18:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yes, even the wise wizard of the industry has been lamenting on these issues.
- Passion gone
- Scared to innovate (probably because they'll be canned)
the list goes on.
i know how to code, so im starting the long journey of making my own studio from scratch
this looks great! keep at it!
17.10.2024 18:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yes ive been quite addicted to this recently
17.10.2024 18:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0honestly, i'd blame the companies, most of them are out of touch and only think of corporate greed.
in college their training new devs to follow industry standards.
in short, the passion needs ignited again.
need to rise up and bring back gaming how it's MEANT to be.
im saying enough is enough, i've played 10s of thousands of titles and im sick of the current practices, it's disgusting
indie devs aren't as bad as they used to be, as a whole their starting to make things comparable to AAA games and unity and other engines if used to their fullest allows us to do it for free, just time spent, the industry won't fix itself, so indies and indie studios that haven't fallen to corporate
17.10.2024 18:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0and this is the game version that got scrapped due to not being fun.
however it did teach me a good bit about how to use unity
