Saying that it's "too hard" to get on the Irish president ballot when an independent woman got the entire Irish left to back her, got the biggest vote ever and beat two historically dominant parties is not just wrong - it is breathtakingly offensive and outrageously dishonest.

This is the Ireland editor of one of the biggest media houses in the country.
One of the truths in media ownership is that the best way to influence coverage is not to tell journalists what to do - it's simply to employ people who think and act like you.
The rest takes care of itself.

Congratulations to our President Elect Catherine Connolly. An incredible result achieved by thousands of volunteers from parties, independents & people active in politics for the first time.
Thanks to @greenpartyie.bsky.social reps & members around the country who campaigned as part of this movement

totally- why is someone spoiling their vote given more weight than me driving 4 hours to get back to Dublin to use mine? Why is media reading them as if this a valid why to use a precious democratic right ?

The Taoiseach is not coming to Dublin Castle for the official declaration of Catherine Connolly's victory in the presidential election.

Whether intended or not, it's going to look very confrontational for the head of government NOT to be there to congratulate the new head of state

I need every journalist to point out that even if steen got the finger out and got on the ballot (she didn't), and even if all the spoiled votes would have gone to her (they wouldn't), she would have still come last

Remember Catherine Connolly is an independent, who won the support of parties. The problem for those who failed to get a nomination is not parties but not having a serious campaign.

Lough Derg is drifting towards the fate of Lough Neagh, that once great lake now all but dead.

The tide is turning - real change doesn’t come from the top, it starts with people choosing differently. Every new Green member rejects despair and division, choosing courage, care, and a radical vision of hope rooted in climate and social justice.

Extremely relevant in Ireland too. Once a week there's some bread board on the radio talking about how the government should cut down everything. Ignoring that fact that they reduce flooding, reduce windspeed, provide shelter and shade and are beautiful

don’t capture the established key mechanism that can destabilize the North Atlantic subpolar gyre. Those models that get it predict abrupt subpolar gyre changes in coming decades 😳.

This interview is very helpful in demonstrating just how poor a candidate Heather Humphreys is. At one point she’s asked how she’s found campaigning in a social media age and she literally doesn’t have an answer. The question has to asked twice

But this particular moment in it is eye popping.

MetroLink is NOT expected to cost more than €20bn. It's currently expected to cost around €9bn. The €20bn figure has been debunked several times and for a national newspaper to publish it as if it's fact is incredibly damaging.

Facts matter.

There are two reasons I would encourage apathetic voters to get out and vote for Catherine Connolly, even if it looks like she's going to walk in.

1. Palestine- We need to send a message to the government that we are not indifferent on this issue. A strong turnout helps convey this
