There is disturbing and then there is plain immoral. Suspect as welfare reforms take effect we will all see many more tents on pavements of our centre cities with wheelchairs beside them.

New WMO report on near-term climate projections finds that global temperatures are likely to remain at highly elevated levels for the next five years. Barring a large volcanic eruption, it is very unlikely that we see a year as cool as 2022 again. wmo.int/sites/defaul...

Given the number of diesel urban tractors that clog roads and cripple kids lungs, and are considered de rigeur around here, it's hard - despite my loathing of Musk and his agenda - not to have some sympathy for this EV owner.

Someone so worried their Tesla (one of the smallest they make and about the only one suited to the average width of most village roads in this country) will be taken down they've resorted to very polite British pleading. @teslatakedown.com

Line graph time series of daily mean Arctic sea ice volume for each year from 1979 to 2025 using shades of red, white and blue. A seasonal cycle is shown with thicker ice in late winter and thinner ice in late summer. A long-term decreasing trend is also visible. Data is from PIOMAS v2.1.
#Arctic sea ice volume was about 36% below the 1979 level and 20% below the 1979-2024 average in March 2025

Rainfall measured over the orange alert region in Argentina 1-7 March 2025.
Argentina faced extreme heat, followed by deadly rains. The heat was due to climate change; the rains, less clear. Donβt be fooled by uncertaintiesβmore events will hit as we keep drilling & burning. Voting for leaders ignoring this wonβt save lives. www.worldweatherattribution.org/consecutive-...

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.
βIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.β

Hi - I'd like to share this story of what is happening at NOAA GFDL, where some of my colleagues and I worked until the mass firings at NOAA last week.

Bar graph of annual increase in CO2 at Mauna Loa. Below 1 ppm/year around 1960, growing to over 3 ppm for both 2023 and 2024.
The average for the year shows one of the biggest leaps since the measurements started in 1958. Taking my December estimate, the average for 2025 is 424.6 ppm, that's 3.5 ppm more than last year's 421.1 ppm.
The 3.4 ppm jump from 2023 to 2024 was the highest seen so far.

Back in the early 90's when I lived in some very remote parts of the Himalaya I had an early version of MSR's ceramic hand pump water filter. Cost a wad and weighed a fair bit too, but more than earned its keep. And there are smaller versions now for trail hiking.
