What *is* interesting about this is how this demonstrated how politicians fuck themselves over by themselves ignoring, or fighting against, the needs of older and disabled people.

Many public spaces are not meaningfully set up for accessibility: highly polished floors are a significant hazard, but often ignored for aesthetics and/or because it’s in spaces that are socially or politically restricted.

Many (if not most) older people and disabled people live deeply medicalised lives, and uncritically promulgating these positions reinforces the social construction of their incapacity as natural, further restricting them from meaningfully engaging in public life.

I want to unpack a few things about the new video of Mitch McConnell falling being shared online.

1. The conflation of physical frailty with mental incapacity is deeply, deeply ableist.
2. Adding “age” to either physical and mental frailty and using that imply the necessity of incapacity is ageist.

Also visually this felt like Emerald Fennel who, let’s be honest, struggles to make a coherent narrative, but does have a good visual style (even if it’s a bit atemporal).

And hairy bums and hard peens! So much to enjoy.
