Seized Art, Eavesdropping Guards: Parents Describe a Clampdown at Dilley Detention Center as Kids Shared Their Stories Detainees told ProPublica that art supplies have been removed in room searches, immigrants have lost access to Gmail and staff hover within earshot during video calls.

NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just β€œcried and cried and cried,” a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

Kansas informs trans residents their driver’s licenses become invalid on Thursday Some transgender Kansans said they had received the letters from the Department of Revenue. Others hadn’t by Wednesday evening.

β€œβ€˜The persecution is the point,’ said Rep. Abi Boatman, a Wichita Democrat and the only transgender member of the Legislature, who received the [Kansas Dept of Revenue] notice on Wednesday.” To underscore that: a Kansas state legislator is among those whose driver’s license will be voided. The Trump Regime’s Misogyny is Rampant in Immigrant Detention Centers The treatment of women in detention goes to the heart of our humanity.

A measles outbreak. Dirty water. Worm-infested food.

This is what people are facing inside an immigration detention facility in Dilley, TX.

3. If you'd rather support a cause I care about, please consider donating to Juntos here in Philadelphia who is fighting for the rights, dignity, health, and safety of immigrants across the city, regardless of their immigration status. www.vamosjuntos.org I love this city, and I love my neighbors.

It's my birthday! I made it to the end of my 4th decade of life. Next year's a big one. And despite February being a dreary month, it's sunny today, there's snow on the ground, and I have a list of three ways that I would love your support today.

By specifically referencing hedging, Selig draws a parallel between what Kalshi and Polymarket allow people to do and, say, how a farmer minimizes the risk of an unpredictable harvest by selling grain-futures contracts.
(Worried that a given candidate winning an election might hurt your business? Place a hefty bet on him or her on prediction markets to balance your risk profile β€” so goes this argument.) In doing so, the CFTC chair sounds an awful lot like prediction-market executives, who prefer to emphasize how their field is more useful to the world than, say, DraftKings. "I just don't really know what this has to do with gambling," Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour told Axios last year. "Every contract has a hedging use case, even the less obvious ones," argued Kalshi's Samantha Schwab β€” of the Schwabs β€” around the same time. (Schwab has since been appointed deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department.)
As a narrow regulatory matter, these assertions now seem temporarily settled in that it's the position of the government that Kalshi and Polymarket have nothing to do with gambling. (For lack of a better place to mention it, TIl state here that Donald Trump Jr. is an adviser to both companies and an investor in at least one.) But the resolution of these questions arrived just as it was becoming abundantly clear β€” in the numbers but also to anyone who has engaged with these platforms at all or knows anyone who has β€” that most of the action on the big prediction platforms revolves around sports. From The Wall Street Journal:
Kalshi and Polymarket, the biggest prediction-market platforms, have attracted attention for offering outlandish bets such as whether the Trump administration will buy Greenland ... But sports remain the overwhelming majority of their business, giving a sports-betting-crazed nation a new way to participate in America's favorite new pastime.

the trump administration is doing everything it can to clear the regulatory and legal path for prediction markets, which is says are definitely NOT sports betting, no way, couldn't be nymag.com/intelligence...

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

Ok it's cancer but we don't think it is the really aggressive variant. So that's good! Still early in the diagnosis and it's pretty rare in her coloring so vet and I are still figuring it out.

It was the very bad scenario. But we got good margins so possibly very good of the very bad scenario? It's extremely rare so vet is doing more research.

A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world
