This expressed emotion can help to predict the trajectory of their mental health over adolescence. The paper, published in #JCPP @acamh.bsky.social, raises some interesting questions - how can we use this data responsibly? Should children be able to hear what their parents have said about them?

First up: our study of expressed emotion in over 1,000 families taking part in the @eriskstudy.bsky.social study. What does expressed emotion tell us the parent-child relationship? And how can we use it to help identify children and families that need early support?

Through three short films, we'll explore some of our research on children and young people's mental health. This creative collaboration is putting young creatives training at Elstree Screen Arts Academy at the heart of mental health content: by young people, for young people.

October is Black History Month - a time to acknowledge the legacy, leadership, and impact of Black voices in psychiatry, while showcasing what it means to stand firm in power and pride.

This creative collaboration is putting young creatives training at Elstree Screen Arts Academy at the heart of content about mental health - by young people, for young people.

Find out more about this study in our first RESEARCH EXPLORED video, releasing 6 October. RESEARCH EXPLORED is a collaboration between @elstreescreenarts.bsky.social and the Lab. Through 3 short films, we'll explore research done at King's College London on children & young people's mental health.

And this research raises a lot of important questions - how do we store these speech samples safely, and who should have access to them? What happens if children hear what their parents said about them?

The point of this research isn't to blame parents. Instead, expressed emotion research helps us understand the parent-child relationship better, so we can identify and support children and families who may need support even earlier.

In a study published in the #JournalofChildPsychologyAndPsychiatry @acamh.bsky.social of over 2000 twins in @eriskstudy.bsky.social, we found that expressed emotion expressed by mothers when the children were 10 years old predicted mental health outcomes at ages 12 and 18.

A Creative Arts specialist college, ESA Academy works with a diverse student population, many of whom have experienced mental health challenges. Through this partnership, we want to share effective solutions from the evidence base, whilst capturing these young people's creativity & lived experience.

@elstreescreenarts.bsky.social is a screen arts academy for young people aged 14-19 years old, training them in every aspect of the screen arts: from sound design to costuming to writing and beyond.

With the youth mental health crisis mounting, we need evidence-based solutions that put young people's needs first. That's why we're launching a new partnership with @elstreescreenarts.bsky.social - putting young creatives at the heart of mental health content by young people, for young people 🧵
