Re-boosting this thread with alt-text for this post: This image shows a book with a white background and an illustration of a black highwayman's mask on the cover. The title reads: Don't Steal This Book: A Plea from Authors.

In other news whatever Petey is taking, it’s making him look like he dislocated his jaw like a python in this picture and it gives a whole new level to the word β€œgrim”.

Love this kind of science. Also β€œThe squeal of peeling tape, explained” feels like the title of a banger poem

Even this list of Mamdani-focused articles doesn't give a real perspective. 7 of this guy's last 11 pieces are about the mayor.

Which raises a question: what's the editorial decision making here?

Did an editor decide they needed a "Mamdani might be bad, actually" column?

Yet more confirmation of my β€œface of a poet, soul of a Chav” read of Timotee Chalemet.

Shame she didn’t get a new husband to go with the coat.

It's interesting how easy it is for people to look at someone *wildly* succeeding at a horrific goal, and continue acting as if they are failing at a very different goal which they have repeatedly and loudly declared they do not have.

New Research Details 'Human and Economic Toll' of US Abortion Bans | Common Dreams A Monday report from the Center for Reproductive Rights features various profiles demonstrating "the human and economic toll" of US abortion bans.

"The Price of Safety: Stories of Abortions Denied, Careers Disrupted, and States Left Behind" details the human and economic toll of abortion bans. The anthology uses stories from patients, doctors, business leaders, and others to show the real-world consequences of abortion bans.

When you privilege racism over pretty much everything else (except more money for the super rich) it’s inevitable that barely sentient genital warts like this dude float to the top like pond scum.

As an aside he may want his one word to be β€˜sunblock’. Just saying.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.

The blatant sexism and homophobia. I’ve never understood why my son can rise further up the hierarchy than I can because of the penis I grew for him.

100% agree. I got a text the other day that said β€œmum this is my new number can you call to check it’s correct”. You don’t need to be a teenage Angelina Jolie or Jonny Lee Miller sporting a punk hair cuts to pull that hack.

The jury is still out here. On the one hand, as you say, soooo cute. On the other he dates a Kardashian. I also realised he tends towards the gimmick when acting (the Bob Dylan hair, the moustache in his latest) and while I’m not saying he’s a bad actor, I don’t think he’s quite the wonder kid +

Yup. the United States of America wouldn’t exist without genocide. And that instinct is absolutely still there.

This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food

Most common was a situation where the lower earning partner did work that wasn't recognized as work. Tutoring, sewing, laundry, domestic labor that people perceive now as worthless. It brought in 20 to 40% of the household income. And often the land or furnishings for that house came from her.

When we talk about genocides in the U.S., there are the many genocides of tribal nations that have been ongoing for centuries. There is also the genocide of Black people, the conditions of which have never gone away. This can be useful historical context for things happening now.

At its most basic Trump voters are experiencing the impact of the tacit deal they made with the Bigot - exactly how much, in very real terms, they’ll have to pay for their racism.

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

In a lot of ways it’s confirming it. So while I agree there is a reckoning coming and the need to forge a new narrative, it will be largely for privileged folks to do the work. So that tends to mean white cis straight and able bodied.

clay) maintains the veneer of truth because it embodies and reflects back the privileged β€œwe”. For other groups the narrative has never been this clean, this simple. It’s laced with caveats and underpinned by violence of every kind. For that β€œwe” current events aren’t destroying their narrative. +
