Knowing how painful it was when the stupid rivet in the walking boot pressed on my recovering ankle, it made me a touch queasy to watch. 🤢

I just read on Instagram that Jamie Benn has a cat and that is so off brand that my eyebrows are almost touching.

I saw some posts earlier that made me think he was having a rough night.

I just flipped over to the #CarolinaCulture (so stupid) game bc the Marshall-Coastal Carolina game is going to hell in a handbasket, in time to see the replay of Jarvy blocking that shot. And as someone who is still recovering from a broken ankle … 🤢🤢🤢🤢.

I also find that I want a chilly house after any kind of surgery and I know when I am at risk of being nauseated, put me on ice! 🥶

I don’t think I had pain for a day or two bc that nerve block was working hard, but they did Rx Oxy. I only took it a few days.

And I may not have mentioned this, but I kept my house an icebox for a couple of months. In the splint, you can’t ice it — ice can’t penetrate the splint bundle. So ALL you can do to help with swelling is /1

The Sketchers I suggested to pair with the walking boot are basically knock-off Hokas. Maybe shoes you already have will match!

I effed up butter in an icing recipe not once, but twice! Same recipe! I think it called for 1/3 cup. I can’t recall exactly what I did, but it was A LOT more than that. It made a deliciously glazed, moist cake, though. 😂

I did not sleep in the boot. I got a soft plantar fasciitis splint (that honestly would be terrible for PF bc it slides up the leg), but it still gave my leg stability and kept me from stepping out of bed onto that foot, without the bulk and grossness of the boot. (Go to bed in the same boot /6

elevation pillow from AMZ. Perfect for the couch, plus knew it wouldn’t take up a bunch of storage room after. Also, I’m a side sleeper and a body pillow gave me the right height to put that leg on and support the weight of the ankle/splint so I could sleep. (And once I was in the walking boot, /5

I will say that diabetic socks were a huge help — they have a lot of stretch, so they were perfect to wear with the boot or while icing or when my foot was too damn sensitive to touch anything. Bunch of styles/lengths on AMZ. Also, I got an inflatable /4

Passing that along in case your history of breaks has you concerned about those numbers.

I somehow missed earlier posts about the broken ankle. I searched back and saw you’ve broken it before, so you have experience. I broke mine in May … in Rome. And also had to have surgery — two plates, 10 screws! So I get it. 😭 Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

In elderly people, UTIs often present as dementia. I know you are dealing with that anyway, but if someone makes a sudden:marked turned, it’s worth considering.

You are doing the best you can with the knowledge and resources you have in that moment. Resources include your energy, your patience, your brain power. Hindsight truly is 20/20, especially in such fraught situations.

Those doors are EXACTLY what I was thinking of! Touchless items can be hard for people on crutches or who have Parkinson’s.
And then there’s even conflict among disabilities — tactile paving on sidewalks is awesome for visually impaired but *rough* for steering a wheelchair or knee scooter.

I wrecked a knee two years ago, and then broke an ankle this year. A few days on crutches or in a wheelchair made it clear that every architect and city planner should have someone disabled in their employ.
