The TDSB declared a snow day for tomorrow. They declared the snow day ahead of time?! I'm surprised more by that than by the snow day itself.

After sacking Rome, the Celtic leader Brennus is reported to have said "Vae victis" (woe to the conquered) in response to Roman claims that the Celts were treating the Romans unfairly.
It seems to me that the current administration sees their position in the same way.

Over the past few days people have been sharing a picture/meme which states what ICE can and cannot do vs what police can/cannot do.

The rule of law means that the people who make the law and the people who enforce the law are also subject to the law and accountable for infringing it.

I asked my grade 10 students back in December "Is the United States going to war with Venezuela?" They had no idea what I was talking about or what was going on.

As a teacher in North America, New Years always feels like it is at the wrong time of the year. It's not a new year. Just partway through this one.

I believe the counter argument is that in a democracy any member of the demos should be able to be part of the government. If professional rulers are needed then it is no longer a democracy.

I ended up buying the book they discussed.

I will stop and restart the sentence if I use are with the singular or is with the plural.

Starship Troopers I read, and enjoyed, as a teen. Haven't revisited it since but I am aware that many people dislike the book and Heinlein's thinking in general.
