Raising fuel duty is one of a very short list of things that this government is getting right. Very poor from the Lib Dems.

If you are three years away from a general election and you have five parties in England polling between 14% and 23% then NOW is the time to start talking about how to cope with that. Preparing the electorate for pacts, informal alliances, etc. That's what we'd do if we lived in a smart country.

Whatever else this is from Paul Ovenden, demanding Labour MPs back Mahmood’s immigration crackdown, it is the most over-written, pretentious thing I’ve seen for some time.

I know we're not going to get electoral reform before the next election. But why aren't we moving towards formal pacts between the parties? Why is our politics so averse to this? Why are we just relying on a vague notion of 'tactical voting'? There has to be a better way!

Wow - this is just amazing. Incredible and important research, holding power to account. And the numbers are truly shocking - this is very hard reading.

One day we will look back at this system of student loan repayments and be amazed that it was allowed to happen. We put a high tax on the development of skills and pretend it is a loan. And we apply that tax arbitrarily on the basis of age.
