Best gag in any Naked Gun film:

The doctors say he has a 50:50 chance of pulling through, but there's only a 10% chance of that

Front cover of Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Vintage Classics edition. The main image on the bike is three bombs dropping through the sky. The bombs are shaped like human hands with a single eye in the palm. The title and author are shown in capitals in the bottom right. There is a pink stripe on the left which contains the words Vintage Classics in capitals

Maybe I can suggest some summer reading for Mike Huckabee

US envoy to Israel taunts Starmer and likens Gaza assault to Dresden bombing Mike Huckabee launches undiplomatic harangue after UK prime minister calls for immediate ceasefire

Loving Mike Huckabee's slam "if you liked the fire bombing of Dresden then how can you complain about what's happening in Gaza???"

In the prime interview slot of #BBCRadio4Today Michael Kleiner of Likud TWICE claimed that Hamas (not Israel) were starving the population of Gaza. Both times unchallenged.

No questions about GHF, massacres of people queueing for food, or aid organisations' condemnation of Israel's blockade.

Anyone else still measure time units in the shift lengths they had at their first job? For me 4 hours = 1 New Look shift.

Are we ready for this conversation on the food side - where in high meat consuming countries it’s “eat more plants and develop new alternative proteins that out-compete meat on taste and price” vs “eat less meat”?

‘Israel has built the most efficient starvation machine you can imagine. So while it’s always shocking to see people being starved, no one should act surprised. All the information has been out in the open since early 2024.’

I've made some bad decisions in my life but I like to think that if I entered a Grail Chamber with 500 gold cups and one cheap one then I wouldn't choose a gold cup.

“Dr” Matthew Melsa and plain old Kate Stewart.
This still happens so often. At least I got a mention though - he still gets sole credit for joint stuff way too often 🙄

The starvation of Gaza is shameful. Crippling sanctions on Israel are needed | Letters Letter: Thirty-one Israeli signatories express their shame, rage and agony over the plight of Palestinians and call for action from the international community

"Our country is starving the people of Gaza to death and contemplating the forced removal of millions of Palestinians from the Strip. The international community must impose crippling sanctions on Israel until it ends this brutal campaign and implements a permanent ceasefire."

It's a fantastic show that gives you a great insight into recent Irish history and politics. And there was LOADS going on in the late twentieth century. But it is always on at the same time! Who is still watching it???

There's a programme called Reeling In The Years on Irish TV. There are 40 episodes, each taking a year between 1960 and 1999 and showing clips of the news, sport and culture from that year. It has been shown every week day at 18.30 on RTE1 for 25 years.

It is pretty noticeable that even as mainstream opinion on Israel and Gaza finally shifts, you don’t hear the Responsible Adults apologizing for punishing all the college kids protesting the atrocities. Quite the opposite in fact!

Gaza hospital says 21 children dead from malnutrition in 72 hours as UN warns 'last lifelines collapsing' The UN says Israel must allow aid into Gaza, as a hospital director says 900,000 children in Gaza are suffering from hunger.

There are no words to convey the horror of 21 children in Gaza starving to death in the last 72 hours. There are no words to convey the horror of nearly a million more children being at risk of the same fate.

The UK cannot stay complicit in this atrocity.

In case you haven't realised, this is a thread about hyper-fixation. This World Cup has given my son intense joy, but also real anxiety over planning and control. He has poured so much effort into it.

WC2025 final result: Poland 2 Argentina 4.

After a year of planning, with regional qualifying games, a draw in December, and then intricately made-up games for every match of a 64 team World Cup... and the winner turns out to be the holders of the actual men's World Cup
