The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.

The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.

Can’t help thinking of this quote from a Labour minister, a year ago…

Was going to do a joke post about Chris Mason saying "a historic night for Reform as they finish ahead of Labour, what does this teach us about the white working class in the north? Also, the Greens won" but too many of you would, sensibly, assume it was real.

Officers from Thailand’s Metropolitan Police Bureau went undercover as a lion dance crew in order to catch a wanted burglar who had managed to evade arrest several times before, local media reported.

I propose to make universal the old policy of the Blackfriars conference at the American Shakespeare Center:

If you do not end your paper on time, you will be forced to exit, pursued by a bear. Literally, a bear will come take your paper from you.

So I don't know if he counts as a 'senior royal' (probably not), but...

Arthur Plantagenet, Viscount Lisle (bastard son of Edward IV) was arrested, held AND released, and only died because he was so excited about about being released that he had a heart attack two days later...

Counts?

Many people have told me I should change my last name, but instead, Donald should change his.

"Donald Epstein" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

It would be hilarious if the outcome of all of this drama was that, a decade later than advertised, we finally got chaos with Ed Milliband.

McSweeney is gone. Time for Starmer to try to salvage his government by launching long overdue proper action to address all the flaws in our political system - peerages, patronage, cronyism, party finances, MPs revolving door, appointments, ministerial code, business interests, Leveson, etc etc.

My photo shows two Roman gold-band mosaic glass bottles on display at the Met Museum. Made of mosaic patterned translucent cobalt blue, turquoise green, and opaque white glass, together with gold leaf encased in colourless glass. Both bottles have round bodies, flat bases, and cyclindrical necks with horizontal everted rims. The larger bottle on the left is 10.5 cm tall, the smaller bottle on the right is 4.8 cm tall. They are displayed on a clear glass shelf against a light beige background.

According to the museum label: β€œGold-band cast glass was a particularly opulent type of early Roman glassware. It combines canes of brightly colored translucent and opaque glass with strips of gold leaf encased between layers of colorless glass. Only a limited number of vessel shapes were made in this way, and some of the most common are small globular or carinated bottles such as these. They were presumably used to store expensive cosmetics and perfumes”.

Luxury Roman scent bottles made of gold-band mosaic glass. 1st century AD.

This opulent glass was made by encasing strips of gold leaf between layers of colourless glass.

Beautiful example of the skill of ancient glassmakers some 2,000 years ago!

I don't really care much about the Olympics, but Haiti's uniforms take winterwear to epic new levels of awesomeness. The only hand-painted uniforms in the games, for a nation (to quote designer Stella Jean) 'that refuses to disappear.
