Our latest preprint is now available doi.org/10.1101/2025...! Led by my postdoc, Luqiang Guo @luqiang.bsky.social, we determined a ~2.4 A resolution structure of the hantavirus glycoprotein tetramer on the surface of VLPs. Also determined structures of dimers of tetramers and Fab-bound tetramers.

Long in the making, but happy to present the Chlamydomonas chlororibosome!
Cryo-ETπŸ”¬reveals a large new domain on the small subunit, built from multiple extensions in conserved ribosomal proteins.

This suggests greater chlororibosome diversity than expected!

Cryo-electron tomography reveals coupled flavivirus replication, budding and maturation - Nature Communications In this study, Dahmane et al use a method called cryo-electron tomography to uncover new details of how tick-borne flaviviruses transform cells into virus factories.

I am super happy to share this paper in its final form. We used FIB milling to "dig in to" cell lines and mouse brains infected with tick-borne flaviviruses, followed by cryo-ET to study the virus replication. It's open access, so have a look!

I've reviewed about 150 CVs in the past few days. A few observations: (1) I am sooo impressed by the talent pool out there; (2) do not try to make your CV fit onto one page if it makes things difficult to read - just go multipage, keeping the key messages upfront;

This figure captures how challenging the #cryoEM analysis was, but it doesn't capture the challenges we had to solve in molecular biology, biochemistry, purification, and functional testing. Every step was hard! So glad to see it available.

The golden age of vaccine development - Works in Progress Magazine The first vaccine was a lucky accident. Now we can design new vaccines in weeks, atom by atom.

NEW article by me!

We can now visualize pathogens down to atoms; design vaccines in weeks; manufacture them in microbial factories; engineer them more precise than ever before.

We're living through a golden age of vaccine development, but only if we continue to invest in them.
