If all the companies agreed, they could just agree on a common file format and let users upload their own data.

03.03.2026 00:13 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yeah. I don't see how this solves any problem that "let players download the skins they buy" doesn't also solve.
02.03.2026 23:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0To be up front, I don't even think bitcoin is very useful for anything other than crime.
02.03.2026 23:50 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0And even if they did contain the data, they can't guarantee that selling the NFT means no one else has the data since the data can easily be copied.
02.03.2026 23:49 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The problem is that NFTs don't contain the data. They just contain a pointer to the data that may or may not go stale.
02.03.2026 23:48 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0And even if the NFT contained the actual data instead of the pointer, it's not clear to me how it's any better than just storing the data on your own machines/cloud.
02.03.2026 23:48 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Again, the problem is how is that useful? NFTs don't even solve problem as simple as "can I buy a minecraft skin and own it without having to trust Minecraft Inc.?" You still have to trust that Minecraft Inc will honor it since all the NFT contains is the url pointing to it.
02.03.2026 23:46 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0Really, besides the Immutable Ledger which is also used by bitcoin, NFTs don't use any technology that wasn't also used in - like - OpenSSL.
02.03.2026 23:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Right. I mean, NFTs basically only use a subset of the techniques used used for bitcoins. They aren't the same as bitcoins. They are simpler.
02.03.2026 23:40 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0And also, NFTs aren't really even that interesting. They don't do anything bitcoin didn't do already.
02.03.2026 22:58 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
The problem with NFTs is people confusing "technically impressive achievement" with "many people should buy one".
Radioactive bubble chambers are technically pretty interesting. but I don't think it makes sense for many people to buy them.

I saw a demonstration in front of the Ferry Building today with lots of Iranian flags (the old royal version). The crowd seemed... pro-Trump?
Not clear how representative of the diaspora they are.
Just finished reading Moonraker and not only does it bear absolutely no relation to the movie, but Bond doesn't even get the girl at the end!
Still an enjoyable read!

28.02.2026 23:42 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0Reading @davidcrespo.bsky.social argue with lawyers about LLMs here has been really informative. I've learned things like: some lawyers are unable to explain the difference between a "citation" and a "reference" to non-lawyers.

28.02.2026 23:11 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Our way of life as we knew it could not even be bothered to defend itself against an explicitly-stated existential threat. We have to find a mode of ourselves that believes in our right to exist.
28.02.2026 20:31 — 👍 58 🔁 10 💬 0 📌 0Also, there's absolutely no crisp distinction between "an LLM" and "an LLM with certain preparatory instructions". Prepending "please ask questions if the following request is not clear" is equivalent to using a LLM with slightly different weights.
