This was great day in the mountains. It was October 2020. The Bow River was filled up and flowing, like it used to. My dog was a pup. My kids were still kids. It was autumn. The air smelled fantastic.

This morning, at a multi-national company, a VP and I were making chit chat. I asked them about AI and their business. They said: "We calculate that every time someone queries AI with a text ask, it's like turning a microwave on high for 1 second. Creating AI-art is like 8 minutes on high..."

I run outside in Edmonton. Like a dog. But not below -22c. Too hard on the fleshy mechanics inside me. -32 C is cold and hard on everything.

And I'll add one more thing: some of the Ukrainian women cleaned my local gym, early, where I work out. And they watched their iPhones for incoming Russian missiles on some app while vacuuming. And they'd cry, in a group, when the missiles hit — because that map was home.

I felt sick about that.
