A part of him still hurts, of course, longing for the missing piece in his life. A part of him is still stuck in the past, unable to move on without her by his side. And a part of him still waits,

Because despite everything, he’s still human in the end. (He can remember those words she told him, mumbled in between sobs one late night in bed.)

Most of him was fine. Is. Will continue to be. He still has a family to love, adventures to enjoy, and monsters to slay. Memories that might drift away

Hoping someone will call his name in a voice that’s slowly fading from his memory as the months turn into years

He hates that most of all. Her laugh becomes a warm feeling, her smile a bright glow, details fading into dreams he cant keep ahold of when he awakens no matter how desperately he tries.

He is always hoping someone will turn up when least expected, taking him by surprise with a hug from behind. Hoping someone will take his hand, pulling him up from the ground as she looks on with a triumphant look because ha, he lost this time, he better make a delicious dinner tonight.

letting the wind caress his face, imagining the ghost of her touch. Lingering a few extra seconds in the doorway of his home to look back outside, trying to catch a glimpse of the gold he loves so much. Staring up at the night sky, hand outreached as if he could catch the stars and bring them home.

he’s grown used to it.

Maybe it’s helped by how there is a part of him that is always waiting now. For something. Someone. The feeling hangs in his heart, not heavy, but ever present. A longing that can’t be subdued by the passage of time. He finds himself walking slowly down familiar paths,
