People who maybe took French or Spanish in high school: I think I would have a hard time learning Thai because of all the *tones*.

Me who speaks multiple languages and studied linguistics: the hard thing about languages is remembering the words for things.

Maternal: heavy equipment operator in the ACOE on Okinawa in WWII, road crew foreman who built the roads servicing all the hydroelectric dams on the Colombia River.

Paternal: Journeyman IBEW electrician who wired every military base built in California during the war.

The Thai DMV (DLT; Department of Land Transport) takes all day, but at least they tell you when to come back so you can leave for a few hours instead of sitting around. 👍🇹🇭🛵

I actually met an English woman the other day who, mistaking me for a fellow traveler, informed me that she had left London on account of all the moose lambs... to come to Thailand. The percentages of the populations who are Muslim are roughly the same in London and Thailand. I was speechless.

Not mentioned in the article: Black Americans are finding that the rest of the world isn't nearly as racist as the USA. Ask any Black person in Thailand. I've heard people say that they feel safe here for the first time in their lives.
