Jeffrey Epstein’s Necrophilia—and Ours In 1973, the psychologist Erich Fromm described a dream had by one of his patients: Ten couples are dancing at a party.

The panic around Epstein makes literal a feeling that many people share: Those in power are eating us alive.

Watching the news, Trump says, "Stop. Killing. Protestors."

For a second, I thought he was talking about ICE and thought they'd seen the light.

But no, it was about Iran.

The Lost Generation For fifteen years I’ve scalped tickets to pay the bills. But in January 2016 I almost managed a real career.

You get the sense that Gen X/Boomer men were calculating:

"How many millennial men do I have to throw off a cliff this year to atone for the sin of my success?"

Boys Without Men Never has there been more concern about the state of boys and young men. In early December, California launched a “mental health media challenge” designed to help those who feel “disconnected, unseen,...

Everyone's sure there's a "crisis of men and boys" and equally sure the answer is another "healthy masculinity" initiative.

Boys don't need endless behaviour explainers or another injunction to "get help" from appropriate authorities.

They need men.

The Vatican’s “repatriation” of Indigenous artifacts implies Catholicism is a white religion. But most Indigenous people in North America are Christian and many are Catholic.

Is this not our Church? Are we not Catholics too?

Marx said that the history of humanity’s expropriation is written "in letters of blood and fire."

But he also saw something else: history creates the universal. Today’s fetish of cultural difference destroys that possibility.

The Folly of Ousting Prince Andrew The best solution to Britain’s incessant palace scandals would be to have a monarchy but no actual monarch.

"When ancient institutions are trying to save their skins, they are merciless even to their own members. But I do not think it will work."

Peter Hitches
@ClarkeMicah
argues that casting out Prince Andrew shows the monarchy's weakness, not its renewal:

It reminds me a bit of the CIA funding the mujahideen to fight against the USSR. Here too, they might end up fighting something like the Taliban at home as a result.

But they'd rather even that than confront their own working class head-on.

That was clearly part of the thrust for importing all these migrants. Yes it was for cheap wages and a mobile labour force, but they then actively encouraged division through multiculturalism.

They would rather people be divided on cultural grounds and feel no allegiance to anything but themselves and/or their little identity enclaves than people be united by being workers, for instance.

It seems quite obvious that the UK and similar countries are deeply divided, but this has been more or less the intentional strategy of governments up till now.

Okay but dont big up the risks of kids seeing the light of day unattended and encourage people not to call the cops on their parents when they do?

"Teach mindfulness! Mental health! Wellbeing! We'll prevent problems before they start!"

When will we learn that we are creating the problems we're pretending to solve?

Cultivating excessive self-attention is good for no one, least of all kids.

It seems obvious to me that Mandelson was appointed because his shady links to Epstein clearly made him the best Ambassador to the US with Trump in charge. Clearly a feature not a bug.

And yet here they are, all shouting in unison: "Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences."

How Therapy Culture Led to Therapy Bots Millions of people worldwide are turning to LLMs (large language models) like ChatGPT for mental health support.

Bots only replaced people that psy professionals told us not to trust.

They made this therapy couch, and now we're all lying in it.

Woke Lost, but Freedom Didn’t Win Andrew Doyle begins his new book The End of Woke by expressing his hope that the book will one day become a compendium of historical curiosities that merely makes “a decent doorstop.”

"Wokeness is distinguished specifically by its authoritarian aspect. It demanded not moral agreement, but ideological submission."

"Man With Disabilities Begs Hospital To Stop Pushing Suicide"

I love all this discussion of "child poverty." Like there are these roving bands of orphan Victorian chimney sweeps.

Families are in poverty. Parents are poorly paid or unemployed. They aren't impoverished alone.
