To be clear, there are three color modes in Nosferatu: Night, Day, and Interior.

I do love how the night shoots look almost black and white, the interior shots look sepia toned like old film and the day shots look like a color muted 1970's horror film.

Some outlets are reporting that DOGE "doesn't exist" anymore. But the fine print on that overturns the whole story: DOGE is just dropping its tarnished brand, not the chainsaw. 🧡

The articles asks "where did all the colour from movies go?" then favorably compares Nosferatu, a beautiful but largely color muted movie to Frankenstein, an equally beautiful movie vibrant with color.

Picture: Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac in Frankenstein looking at a corpse dissected along it's spine.

Text: "It’s not just Wicked experiencing visual criticism, Frankenstein’s lighting seemed inconsistent with the intended gothic tones, with many believing it felt like a video game, unlike Nosferatu, another gothic creature horror that enthralled with its masterful use of lighting and darker tones. Decider’s review of Frankenstein recognised β€œthat signature Netflix flatness in its lighting and focus, a lack of contrast that makes the surfaces stick together across each focal length. Few elements on-screen feel real and tangible, and for a film about blood and sinew, that’s a problem.”"

I stopped reading that Guardian article at this point. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people talk about Frankenstein's cinematography like this.

I'm just going to have to accept I live in a different reality than everyone else, I guess.

As I get older I realize this is one of my favorite scenes in THE EXORCIST, and its power is in its austerity. It’s pared down to its essence, and it carries the weight of the entire movie.

She's the rich daughter of the lawyer who defended OJ Simpson in court, then befriended Paris Hilton and both had a sex tapes leak in the early 2000s which they propelled into reality show careers.

That's the long and short of it.

It's Kim Kardashian. Everything she does is inexplicably popular despite being the absolute worst unwatchable garbage imaginable.

If there ever was a symbol for collective societal brain rot, it's the Kardashian family's popularity as a whole.

My ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 review of THE PASSENGER boxd.it/bPvWhj

Unexpectedly thoughtful psychological thriller bolstered by two incredibly fine performances from Berchtold & Gallner.

Is living life with regret & reticence really living at all? Great premise, sometimes uneven execution. Loved it.

I frequently get on a soapbox about writing "rules". There's only one rule: You have to write.

Everything else is advice and your mileage may vary.

We have gotten so used to Great Replacement becoming normalized that most people hardly noticed that a racist, antisemitic, xenophobic conspiracy theory popularized by mass shooters and 4chan trolls is now government policy.

Udo Kier was one of the great character actors while also being a hell of a character offscreen, too. Truly one of God’s own prototypes. Rest in peace, you magnificent bastard.

Beautiful score. Cage doesn’t surf once but drinks his own piss, bites into a dead rat, learns something about masculinity, and maybe, just maybe, learns a little about himself too. Carries some of that Wake in Fright spirit, and more obviously John Cheever’s The Swimmer. A vibe.

My take on the Optic/Haptic vid is: It tries to develop a unifying theory on a broad thesis with a shaky premise (β€œWhy don’t movies look realistic anymore?”) and inevitably winds up with a mess of cherry-picking, self-contradictions, specious reasoning, along with a lot of individually good points.
