I got one on a crow. The contrast between its black feathers and the white membrane and blood vessels was really cool.

Love when I capture the nictitating membrane in that light and one can see how highly vascularized it is.

Hopefully not. It usually is there during the winter months but then moves on as they start to seek mates for breeding and raising young as spring is around the corner.

I went looking to see if the barred owl was home and found someone else squatting there instead, not sure it’s the smartest choice to do so …
