2/ But it’s not inevitable and the loss needs to be dealt with like any other disaster befalling a public building (think Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris). The East Wing can and should be reconstructed in a form as close to the original as professionals and skilled craftspeople can do it.

1/ Almost everyone, public (TV, newspapers, radio) and private is discussing Trump’s razing of the East Wing of the White House as if it must inevitably be followed by construction of his ballroom monstrosity.
