#feedbackd now ships a media role configuration to separate audio volumes but it is not installed by default yet as this will need #wireplumber 0.5.13 to work properly. You can try it out by building feedbackd with the `-Dmedia-roles=true` option. Feedback appreciated (pun intended πŸ™ƒ) […]

The Next Phosh Community Get Togethers (Online and Offline) We’d like to invite our members as well as everyone interested in Phosh and the activities of Phosh.mobi e.V. to our first online Phosh community get together on 2025-11-18 19:00 CET at https://ev.phosh.mobi/gettogether/ and to our next meeting in the Datenburg at 2025-12-04. ### Why an online meeting? While some of us meet at various conferences the members of our association are distributed over different countries which makes joining in person meetings hard to impossible. An online meeting gives us an opportunity to chat outside of the General Assembly which has a more formal character. It also provides a way for not (yet?) members to get to know us, ask questions and share experiences. If this works out well we intend to schedule this on a regular basis. ### Is there a formal agenda? No, this get together is for you so we might chat about whatever comes up. Daily driving experiences, interesting projects, news from conferences, planning of the next conference booth, …. ### How does it work? Everyone interested joins the big blue button instance. You can just listen in or join the ongoing discussion, with or without having your camera enabled. ### Are there offline meetings too? Yes. We had one last year in the Datenburg and want to repeat that at the same location (Bornheimer Str. 25, 53111 Bonn) on 2025-12-04 starting at 18:00 CET.

Save the dates: We're having an online community get together at 2025-11-18 and an offline one at @datenburg at 2025-12-04 . Everyone interested in #Phosh and the @ev is invited to drop by and chat. Hope to see you there.

Audio Roles, Volumes and Routes What if you want to have your phone’s alarm clock volume different from your music playback volume and have the later go to speakers while alarms should continue to go to the phone’s speaker? While this could be handled manually via per application volume and sink setups, this doesn’t scale well on phones that also have emergency alerts, incoming calls, voice assistants, etc. It also doesn’t specify how to handle simultaneous playback - for instance, if an incoming call rings while music is playing.

With some #wireplumber changes landing we're a big step closer to enabling separate volume controls for things like media, alerts, alarms, etc. in #Phosh. Here's a short overview on the current state: https://phosh.mobi/posts/role-based-routing/

With more mobile distros shipping a #feedbackd enabled alarm clock we can show the UI to make the alarm sound configurable with a bit of heuristic (to make sure it's not configurable when not supported):

Factorio Running On Mobile As a video game, _DOOM_ has achieved cult status not just for its legendary gameplay and milestone developments but also because it’s the piece of software that’s likely been ported to the most number of platforms. Almost everything with a processor can run the 1993 shooter, but as it ages, this becomes less of a challenge. More modern games are starting to move into this position, and _Factorio_ may be taking a leading position. [Point Substantial] has gotten this game to run on a mobile phone. The minimum system requirements for _Factorio_ are enough to make this a challenge, especially compared to vintage title like _DOOM_. For Linux systems a dual-core processor and 8 GB of memory are needed, as well as something with at least 1 GB of VRAM. [Point_Substantial]’s Xiaomi Mi 9T almost meets these official minimum requirements, with the notable exception of RAM. This problem was solved by adding 6 GB of swap space to make up for the difference. The real key to getting this running is that this phone doesn’t run Android, it runs the Linux-only postmarketOS. Since it’s a full-fledged Linux distribution rather than Android, it can run any software any other Linux computer can, including Steam. And it can also easily handle inputs for periphreals including a Switch Pro controller, which is important because this game doesn’t have touch inputs programmed natively. The other tool that [Point_Substantial] needed was box86/box64, a translation layer to run x86 code on ARM. But with all the pieces in place it’s quite possible to run plenty of games semi-natively on a system like this. In fact, we’d argue it’s a shame that more phones don’t have support for Linux distributions like postmarketOS based on the latest news about Android. Thanks to [Keith] for the tip!

Phosh Nightly Package Builds Tightening the feedback loop Link to heading One thing we notice ever so often is that although Phosh’s source code is publicly available and upcoming changes are open for review the feedback loop between changes being made to the development branch and users noticing the change can still be quiet long. This can be problematic as we ideally want to catch a regression or broken use case triggered by a change on the development branch (aka main) before the general availability of a new version.

In case you wonder why there are no more updates coming in: The nightly package builds mentioned in https://phosh.mobi/posts/phosh-nightly/ switched from being Debian Trixie based to Debian Forky. The new suite is called `forky-nightly`.
