Yesterday we participated in the #europeanresearchersnight at the @mncn-csic.bsky.social Children learnt about microbial diversity and how to use antibiotics, and we learnt about how big their curiosity is. A win-win situation 🦠🔬

Deep learning reveals antibiotics in the archaeal proteome - Nature Microbiology Use of artificial intelligence to mine proteomes of archaea led to the discovery of archaeasins, antimicrobials that kill drug-resistant bacteria in laboratory and animal models, offering a promising source of future antibiotics.

We observed how nitrification is a prevalent metabolism in winter dominated by Nitrososphaeria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria. In summer different heterotrophic bacteria express a variety of machineries to use different nitrogen sources. Check here the paper!

New paper alert! 🚨Finally, we publish the research on the nitrogen cycle of a unique Arctic dataset. We have over 13 metagenomes and 7 metatranscriptomes from March until July 2014 from the Dease Strait in the Canadian Arctic. They show how the microbial community changes from winter to summer.
