The #AI critics are right about this much: #LLMs do not know what they are talking about, cannot understand the meaning of the linguistic tokens they stitch together, and have no access to real world embodied referents. BUT that is not a bug; it's a feature. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

In 2007, I argued that #AI is not just an other form of otherness but a virtually perfect instance of Alterity as formulated by Emmanuel Levinas. At the time of publication, the idea was seen as "really out there." What a difference 19 years make.

We call that "philosophical scaffolding," and there is (for better or worse) a lot of that underlying and propping up current research efforts in #AI.

No...that "simple metaphysical assumption" is just one version of cosmology. But not every theology conceives of God in that particular manner. And I will add that this rather limited way of thinking about God is particularly Western, aka European and Judeo-Christian.

But that is not what is suggested here. What is at issue is critical reception. Thus what is in question is not the ontological status of the work of art (whether similar or dissimilar) but of axiology.

It's already a real issue for other artifacts like corporations, organizations, and ships. And these things operate a speeds much lower than this threshold.
