The context is helpful and useful to understand your design choices! Not sure that is a nuance thing, which is more acknowledging complexity and to avoid generalizing. Perhaps we'll just disagree about the tone and some of the framing. That's ok!

Resistive Touch screen - 3.7" Diagonal Want to poke at your projects? This resistive touch screen can be used with a stylus or fingertip and is easy to use with a microcontroller. You can put it over a paper overlay for a touch ...

Cool idea!

On the topic of fun link port peripherals: OK, this is a digression but I came across it recently. What a convenient size this is little touch panel overlay is ... πŸ€”

Totally, it was a thought provoking article. People have different communication styles and I'm not thinking the article should be changed, but I also didn't want to leave that aspect of it unchallenged.

(though I see now there's a comment section on the article itself :D)

Yep, all generated on device. The code is about 1/3 of the fun, what's in it is another 1/3. 😜

Yes, on device! I made a port of a QRCode generator to the GB last year. Part of this project has included making it much faster for QRs.

Probably could be made to work with GBStudio, but it needs a lot of RAM right now. half of that can be in SRAM, at least.

Change in grit probably is a significant thing, but it's far from that entirely and not only modern players. In previous eras many many kids/players just never got far in old/hard games.

"I was pushing against this passive easy gameplay ..."
"... more passive gameplay taste that has become prominent over time ..."
"... games that make you feel like a boss by trading your time or money to increase your stats rather than getting really good... "

Right, it *is* an interesting lens to look at the history of game design! But to support that it spends a lot of words and space being uncharitable about modern players and their supposed deficiencies.

I don't mind the concept, I take issue with the delivery and lack of nuance.

03.02.2026 06:00 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Hmm, perspective seems a bit condescending to less skilled players. Not being able to do ultra hard games doesn't only mean people have no resolve & are into "passive" gameplay, varying skill is a thing (& may change). Difficulty settings don't just exist because players are afraid of challenges.

Custom MBC is likely to be the only practical way. The ChisFlash multi-carts seem like they might be an current option. Mentioned it in a DM, but adding to this thread since there may be wider interest

Your self published version is present. If the incube8 version is digital only then it won't be included since these charts focus on physical cart releases.

I know they have their reasons for no longer selling digital-rom editions, but would prefer if they eventually did after some time period of being cart exclusive.

By not doing that they cut off some of the community that would like to support them as developers.

Probably depends on the game. I could see some (many?) crashing, but others might run.

For example games with save data mainly in WRAM and only copy it over when storing saves or updating high-scores could be ok. (some of my games do that due to build variants for with and without SRAM)

GameBoy-Flash-Carts List of Game Boy Flash Cart Vendors and Options

Did the yearly update to my web list of #GameBoy flash cart vendors & options.

A couple carts went in/out of stock. Prices didn't change much (unclear if tariffs apply)

New vendor is "GB Make" but they lack specifics such as MBC type, SRAM size, etc.

+ Might also be interesting if the screen handles the GBC display persist quirk.

On OEM GBCs & many screens mods it allows duplicating the last-seen image into next frame(s) by turning LCD off and back on during V-Blank.

Couple games use it. The FPGA clones mainly fail.

Recently compared oem vs non-backlit GBBoy colour which seems to have 3-bit rgb output instead of 5-bit (the range clamping could be due to ORing the top 2 bits together, and same for bottom 2 bits).

Congrats everyone! There were 73 releases for 2025 in total (that I know about).

Most recently tags for an entry are clickable to apply as filters, and there are lots of other ways to sort and search.

Finished Infinity- had a great time. Gameplay and difficulty were reasonably balanced (bit easier than expected), UI worked well, overall polished and well done. Long time since playing an rpg, was a decent return to the genre.

Congrats to the team on finishing development.
