Back then I don't think the general public were as well-versed with consumer rights as they are now, and there was only Watchdog on the tv that highlighted this sort of stuff (iirc)

Back in my younger days I worked for Comet (remember them?) and the amount of importance given to selling extended warranties was crazy. I'm guessing margins were pretty thin on good sold so it was the next best way to make money.

Obviously as a parent if you have a passion for something you want to give your son, or daughter, an opportunity to share in that passion, if they want to. If they have enough talent to go further then that's amazing, but it's a fun and social thing to get involved in

Way to miss the point entirely. They get to be part of a team, learn about responsibility, develop as a person and have a lot of fun. I manage a team here that have been together for 4 years (U13 now) and to see them grow has been an utter joy
