To speak of "the relative peace of the last eight decades" is to obscure imperial violence and to perpetuate the ungrievability of lives across whole swathes of the world. Where has this relative peace been for Algerians, Congolese, Vietnamese, Palestinians?

Can someone please explain this to me? When exactly was this 'era of historic peace' that Trump is supposedly ending...?

Beautiful morning in Maynooth for the Irish History Students' Association Conference. I seem to have brought the sun home with me! This was the first conference I ever did as a MA student. It was and remains such a friendly and supportive space for up and coming researchers.
28.02.2026 09:59 — 👍 11 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0So Israel is launching a "preventive" strike on Iran and also announcing a state of emergency, because they expect Iran to respond to their "preventive" strike by launching missiles. So like... what's being prevented here?

27.02.2026 11:23 — 👍 10 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Someone needs to tell British media commentators that (a) many non Muslim voters care about Palestine (and I'm not talking only about students) and (b) it's perfectly fine for any elector, including Muslim voters, to be motivated to vote on the basis of foreign policy.

The people of Manchester and of Britain deserved better than Matt Goodwin and his message of hatred. They also deserve better than what Labour are offering them.

That part in particular chimed with the insane transition in Harry and Meaghan's Netflix doc where he talks about learning about racism and colonialism and then moves swiftly to talk about his experiences (ie his heroism) in Afghanistan.
