JER JER is a fresh new take on the sound of ska punk. Jeremy's inspiration comes from many ska bands old and new, such as Kill Lincoln, Bruce Lee Band, Hepcat, The Skatalites, and Fishbone. While most Ska-Punk bands drive their "Punk" sound from the 90s pop punk style, JER seeks inspiration from modern "indie" punk bands such as Jeff Rosenstock, Pup, Illuminati Hotties, Bad Moves, and the Beths.

I’m not the first person to record full band or record to tape in modern day. Many other bands & engineers have been doing this. But this was something special none of my music leading up tot his point had done! I have never had this much fun recording, and I hope y’all can feel that energy!

The JER band has been touring for years, and the energy of the live band became infectious. I knew I wanted to capture that energy and authenticity onto this record. Every band / record I love is a great band going in the studio, hitting record, and playing a damn good song.

But in a world where AI slop is rising, where social media makes people present an inauthentic idea of “perfection”, and everything begins and ends with hollow aesthetics, I truly wanted to lean into the humanity of music.

Despite having recorded over 500 songs between covers on skatune network, or recording with various other bands, I never tracked a record simultaneously with other musicians. It’s always been play your part to a track, and keep getting takes until it’s “perfect”

This record was recorded in 6 days.
First 2 days we tracked the rhythm section together. Day 3 was mainly doubling guitars, layering keys. Days 4 - 6 were mainly recording horns, percussion, vocals, and miscellaneous extras

I’m not into Purity Politics either lol nobody can be perfect but we also all should be conscious of whatever we consume and put our money toward. There’s a big line that separates humans genuinely fucking up and someone supporting a fascist regime lol like, being aware isn’t purity politics

Punk in the park is just capitalist who wanted to use their capital to make money off punk. They don’t give a shit about the community or marginalized people punk is supposed to stand for. It was obvious that they chose to platform anti-vaxxers for money lol like cmon.

reality is if punk in the park made a statement saying “we deeply apologize for the impact, and going forward would donate proceeds made from punk in the park to immigrant coalitions” they probably could’ve saved the brand of the festival, but that means they wouldn’t make money so they didn’t do it

This is the importance of speaking out. Many bands happily played punk in the park knowing they donated to trump. When we collectively voice how fucked it is to support it, it breaks the social contract of “it’s okay to play fests when they support fascism”

It’s because of pressure. People have known for years that punk in the park donated to trump, but the image of ICE violently ripping families apart wasnt in most of these punk fans heads. Now that it looks bad, bands wanna drop but make no mistake, they’re dropping cause it looks bad to support it

Maybe I missed a band or two, but also wanna specify that often times, people love to point out a guitarist but it’s important to know there’s so many black people who front their own projects, and there could be room for them if they cared but more anti-vaxxers were platforms than niggas lol
