If listing cases of 2025 US political violence, one would include the Charlie Kirk killing, the Melissa Horman killing (MN state legislator), and the CDC shooting.
The president omitting Horman and CDC, but reaching back 8 years for a non-deadly shooting to cite, conveys approval of those shootings.

I understand that "Nothing will happen, nothing will change, they won't do anything, you're a fool for hoping" is a way of venting in a dark, hard time, so it is with kindness that I say shut the fuck up. Tell it to your wall or your canary or your right hand, but don't put it in responses to me.

This is right, and I will just add that "Criticism is not advice or correction" is also good guidance for critics.

I hope The Pitt gets a truckload of Emmy nominations, plus the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for giving us 15 episodes.

I think "This art that I like shares my politics, of course" is kind of a universal disease across political belief systems, going back centuries, but yes, in the social media era, it seems to ESPECIALLY affect a certain subset of particularly online progressives.

I have become not necessarily pro-hypocrisy, but definitely of the view that *some* hypocrisy is an inevitable byproduct of a person or system trying to live up to ideals worth anything. Only saints or total pieces of shit live lives totally without hypocrisy and there’s more of one than the other.

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

Authoritarianism is a very real threat, but everything the administration is doing is making it more difficult for them to consolidate power. However, the opposition has to mobilize in full force and present a clear alternative if it is to succeed.

Worth noting that when Tim Walz was asked on The New Yorker Radio Hour recently if the campaign was worried when they heard the ‘Harris is for they/them, Trump is for you’ ad line, he said yeah they were worried—and then immediately clarified that he was worried *for trans people*.

Say what you will about people calling their Senators newly horrifed to demand action, that's at least a theory of politics with a clear mechanism for change and a clear way to organize neighbors, unlike smugly posting that the American project was always fascist & asking why anyone is surprised.
