but there's still more than a couple open questions

These are not allies cleverly coordinating strategies.

They are a set of autocracies that have shared interests because as autocracies they oppose the rules-based liberal international order the USA created during and after the Cold War.

But they are acting independently in that direction.

Germany and Japan famously failed to meaningfully coordinate during WWII basically at all.

Likewise, China has basically let Putin twist in the wind, China isn't really helping Iran (and this war is actively quite bad for Chinese interests) and Iran's demolition is very bad for Russia.

I'm fascinated by the common failure of strategic mirroring where folks assume that because the USA built a global alliance of democracies after WW, that the autocracies must also function in a vast alliance with unified leadership.

A lot of people didn't have that context so they assumed that the pro-Ukraine OSINT sphere was a group of psychopathic "war as content" posters but a lot of the serious ones were just extremely happy to finally see the Russians eat shit after almost a decade of brutalizing people

One of the things people overlook about the pre-2022 OSINT community is that a lot of it centered around monitoring conflicts where the Russians were propping up brutal dictators so a lot of them were very happy to revel in schadenfreude when the Russians started getting kicked in the nuts

There's still some serious OSINT/geolocation types out who do very good work but they're massively overshadowed by the clickbait brigade who often steal their work without attributing it

OSINT was at its highest quality when it was conflicts most people didn't give a shit about so from December 2021 onward it started to degrade in quality because of clickbait farming and it took a terminal nosedive once Twitter added revenue sharing for twitter blue subscribers
