I'd say it does yeah.
The first three regions are a bit of a bore in terms of story, but they all have their moments.
It only gets really interesting from the fourth region, Sumeru.
There's lots of really good side stories and character quests too that come later.

I'd put my bet on a lot of kids books.
Where the Wild Things Are, Mr Men, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Rabbit, one of the Harry Potters, The Narnia books and some of the Dr Seuss stuff, that sort of vein.
