Ordering my own, and have also requested my local library, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to order a copy. No fake, just real.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

Not my analogy, don’t remember where I heard it, but: using ai for creative writing is like taking ai to the gym and having it lift weights for you.

Of The Empire
by Mary Oliver

We will be known as a culture that feared death
and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity
for the few and cared little for the penury of the
many. We will be known as a culture that taught
and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke
little if at all about the quality of life for
people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All
the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a
commodity. And they will say that this structure
was held together politically, which it was, and
they will say also that our politics was no more
than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of
the heart, and that the heart, in those days,
was small, and hard, and full of meanness.

Since A Simple Carpenter by Dave Margoshes appeared on scene a little over a year ago, I’ve been telling anyone who will listen about how extraordinary it isβ€”and I’m thrilled to get to share it with listeners at The New Books Network.

I appreciated your article in today’s g&m. When my husband studied at Oxford in the 70s, his parents sent him their old copies of McLeans. An American classmate referred to it as β€œCanada’s Newsletter”. He rowed for his college, where the rest of the crew referred to him as β€œthe colonial”.

Stupid Coup Month Three: Two Plus Two Is Still Four Imagine you were on a ship, and reports kept coming to you that the new captain and his crew had done a series of strange things--jettisoned the anchor, blew some holes in the hull, shredded the sails...

Imagine you were dealing with a person who would report that there was two and there was also this other two but didn't want to add them up to get to four, because getting all the way to four felt like making a statement and they didn't want to alarm anybody or be accused of making an accusation.

What does it mean for a book to be fully Canadian-made? LPG publishers are committed to keeping Canadian stories, talent, and production close to home, checking all the boxes.

You have to see this.

PoliticsGirl and her husband teamed up with the brilliant Timothy Snyder (author of On Tyranny) and the legendary John Lithgow to create something truly powerful. It’s important, it’s urgentβ€”and it needs to be shared far and wide.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

β€œIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”
