Vans parked on the sidewalk at Seven Hills Park. Just out of frame to the right is the condo building (which has a parking garage) where they were working.
Back again today. Parking Enforcement was a block away though, and I pointed them here. The vehicles were eventually moved.
The most frustrating thing is the building where they were working HAS ITS OWN PARKING GARAGE.

Cars parked on the sidewalk that is part of Seven Hills Park. The Sanctuary condos in the background.
βNegative park activityβ at Seven Hills Park. This time courtesy of contractors in the very expensive condos in the background.
Thanks Sanctuary Condo neighbors for shutting the park down for 6 months, fighting against reopening and then immediately using the park as your personal parking lot.

This should be permanent.
But also the absolute minimum would be studying impacts during the closure, including impacts to the 8 and pedestrians.

@kimonkuow.bsky.social how do restaurants relying on app delivery compare against restaurants with their own delivery staff? Are they both down or are they able to deliver for less because they arenβt paying boatloads of money to intermediaries?

If our "environmental protection" frameworks can stop an affordable housing project but can't stop a detention center or a highway expansion we really need to start talk about ripping things up root and branch.

Except convention attendees are only occasionally there. For most of the year, the enormous buildings are mostly empty. This is why the area around the convention center feels like a ghost town more often than not.

There was supposed to be housing and offices built as co-development on top of the underground loading dock. The office tower got built (and looks to be VERY empty), but the housing site is just an empty slab without any plans for development at the moment afaik.

Seattle Times graph titled and captioned: βSeattle Center attendance exceeds pre-pandemic levels. Campuswide attendance has expanded substantially recently, partially driven by Climate Pledge Arena which opened in 2031. In the past few years, days featuring events like Bite of Seattle, Pridefest, Bumbershoot or public protests were the busiest, often drawing around 100,000 people.
Graph from the Seattle Times showing attendance at Seattle Center between 2019 and 2025.
Also, this graph, despite its title, does not show that attendance is exceeding pre-pandemic levels. It shows that attendance is exceeding the level from 2019 only. What was attendance like in 2018, 2017, or the 10-20 years before the pandemic?

I donβt think Sound Transitβs plan to shut down the central part of Link light rail from Friday night to Saturday morning accounted for UWβs quarter ending. Currently on a shuttle replacement bus before 6am that is jam packed, is 50% suitcases, and has to turn people away at every stop.
