example of laughably bad "analysis" of this election. the worst and most overtly pro-russian entities either didn't gain required votes to enter parliament or ended with significantly lower numbers than projected.

My mother: the worst elections are when there is a one party system and you can’t vote for anything else, but you have to turn up and vote anyway, because they surveil you

14/ not only is it weird, it's insulting. just talk to czech people. the internet is full of dumb.

13/ and i really would like to extend a warm jdi do prdele to the weird social media entities hysterically screeching that czechs have fallen to russia. looking at the weird "jay in kyiv" guy in particular who said that czechs will now have to "re-learn" what they experienced from 1945-1990.

12/ i worry more about a growing and violent far right than pro russian sentiment. i encourage you to focus more on the actions of czech people instead of the state/government. fundraising and volunteering will continue. a lot has been and can be achieved without needing politicians.

11/ but still, i don't think anyone needs to panic. it's pretty bad but not the worst. the one advantage in ANO being a party of populists is that they likely know that any support for russia in any form will be largely unpopular in the country and they won't go that far.

10/ but the problem comes with the fact that ANO will have to likely work with both SPD (pro russian far right) and motoristé (right wing who barely met the 5% threshold and has a leader who flirts with nazi imagery but and is obsessed with a crusade against bicycle lanes).

9/ so while the winning party isn't technically pro russian, they aren't exactly pro ukraine either. but given the true populist nature of its leaders, i do not expect any significant geopolitical shift or changes. they may speak about it, but it's believed it will only be rhetoric.

8/ being a true populist, he has promised this relief and people naively chose to believe it. rent in prague is currently more expensive than vienna or brussels and cz has the worst wage stagnation in the eu. people are struggling. it doesn't mean they hate ukrainians or want russia to return.

7/ many people who support ANO aren’t "political"- their votes are guided by economic hardship. with inflation + housing and energy costs climbing over the past few years, a lot of older people, especially, are looking to babiš for relief in the form of better pensions and stronger social benefits.

6/ he is not in favor of CZ leaving EU or NATO and he does not support russia in any way. he has called russia the aggressor. however, his extreme populist tendencies have led him to call for reduced or entirely stopped aid to ukraine. he wants funding to be handled by NATO/EU only.

5/ the winning party was ANO, whose platform i can't even really describe for you because it is such an extreme example of populism. they're headed by babiš, an oligarch who will just use state funds to enrich his business monopoly. some people have called him pro russian, but it's not so simple.

4/ SPD will still get 14 new seats in parliament. this is bad. not only are they far-right freaks who try to scare everyone about migrants, they are also pro-Russian and want the czech republic to leave both NATO and the EU. but they will not have significant power in this government.

3/ piráti (probably closest you can get in czech politics to not-stalinist left) beat SPD (crazy far right extremists who hate foreigners) by a thin but real margin. also a good thing objectively. it goes without saying piráti are solidly against russia and support ukraine in real meaningful ways

2/ first, the good. the most pro russian entities were either kept out completely or got significantly lower numbers than they were projected to get. communists will stay out of parliament as stačilo didn't make it to the 5% threshold. they were among the most overtly pro-Russian factions.

1/ it's always funny to me when people who know nothing about czech republic, its politics, or the beliefs of most people here attempt to comment on elections and react in the most hysterical way with laughably shallow "analysis." so let me explain it for you - it's not a "pro russian takeover." -

30/ Ukrainians and Palestinians are not props. They are human beings fighting for dignity, survival, and sovereignty. Their liberation struggles do not compete, but deserve to be evaluated and recognized equally. And anyone who pretends otherwise is complicit in oppression.

29/ Opposing one empire while excusing or ignoring another is cowardice masquerading as principle. True anti-imperialism requires outrage that is consistent, fearless, and unapologetic.

28/ To speak of Ukraine and Palestine together is not to collapse one struggle into the other or make clumsy comparisons. It is to insist on consistency, to demand recognition for both peoples simultaneously, and to call out the hypocrites who pretend moral clarity can be selective.

27/ Both wield fear, violence, and propaganda to maintain control, and the rest of the world too often looks away or decides that one is less horrific than the other.

26/ Both deny the legitimacy of the nations they dominate: Putin insists Ukraine is not a real country, Netanyahu treats Palestinian statehood as a crime.

25/ Putin and Netanyahu are far from opposites. Both exploit history (manufactured history in the case of Russia) to justify current violence, portray entire populations as existential threats, and normalize perpetual war and terror as instruments of governance.

24/ Demonization works differently but relies on the same machinery: stripping people of agency. Ukrainians are either Western pawns or avatars of white civilization. Palestinians are either terrorists or symbolic martyrs, useful only to illustrate ideological points. Both are morally indefensible.

23/ Those who choose comparative solidarity must recognize that imperialism manifests in multiple forms, whether it’s conquest, siege, starvation, displacement, or cultural erasure. All forms demand resistance, and none should be subordinated to ideological convenience.

22/ Both constitute deliberate, systematic violence, and collapsing them into one another either tokenizes one or downplays the other. You can’t quantify human suffering in numbers and figures, especially when getting real statistics from an occupied area is flawed at best.

21/ Death is constant and indiscriminate, with entire families wiped out overnight. Survival is contingent on compliance with occupation, movement is restricted, and entire generations grow up under siege and the permanent threat of annihilation.

20/ In Gaza, Israel enforces a siege economy, flattens neighborhoods with bombings, and targets hospitals and medical infrastructure in deliberate acts of collective punishment. Food, medicine, aid are intentionally blocked, and civilians are gunned down while seeking the bare necessities of life.
