They were seen as being old fashioned and not cool. Daft when you think how popular they were at the time.

So the rumours go

As a rule the Melody Maker wouldn’t cover Ocean Colour Scene (and they rarely covered Paul Weller either). But this article about them from 30 years ago was one of the rare times they broke that rule.

30 years ago today Paul Weller released a limited edition EP to tie in with a Later with Jools special he had filmed.

The lead track was “Out Of The Sinking”.

Happy 30th birthday to “Don’t Look Back In Anger” by Oasis.

This number one hit single is still regularly heard on TV and radio to this day and my 13 year old son often sings it for no apparent reason!

Massive.

30 years ago today Denim released the album “Denim On Ice”. A quirky and interesting album, maybe not to everyone’s tastes but worth investigating.

I saw Denim supporting Pulp the following month and was probably too young to really get it.

Happy 30th birthday to “Keep On Burning” by Edwyn Collins. Not as famous as “Girl Like You”, but I prefer this with its Northern Soul vibes and artwork.

🚨Big Britpop Anniversary alert🚨

On this day 30 years ago The Bluetones released their debut album “Expecting To Fly”.

It famously knocked Oasis off the top of the album chart and is considered by many to be one of the finest British debut albums of all time.

Happy 30th anniversary to “Stereotypes” by Blur. Not a Blur single that gets much love, but I think it’s great.

Not sure there’s much point in filling in and sending off the advert now!

“Light Aircraft On Fire” by The Auteurs turns 30 years old today.
