I certainly agree about the NYC school education of the past. Our teachers were smart, articulate, and well-educated themselves, and they taught us more than the curricums mandated. Most of my daughter's NYC teachers unfortunately were not very interested or committed to more than a weak formula.

I started out that way. And I think as we get older we become more secure about ourselves (if we're lucky), and develop more of a "live & let live" & "it takes all kinds" posture. That's another aspect of liberalism, & it carries over into politics.
