McCarthy is a maestro of the english language who can describe the most nauseatingly disgusting scenes in the same work that features beautiful, naturalistic landscapes of our world. It’s not his best, but it’s still very much worth the read if you can stomach the disturbing material.

A few scenes here made my stomach turn. It’s very graphic in how the real life crimes it’s based on are detailed, and since you’re forced to follow the culprit, it makes it all the less comforting. But that’s the point of art like this— you’re not supposed to feel comfortable about these things.

Finished reading “Child of God” by Cormac McCarthy.

As harrowing and disturbed as it can feel at times, it’s strangely also one of Cormac’s more comically spoken works? The first section (1/3) is especially full of comedic commentary before it jumps straight to the more… disturbed content.
