Same teams compete year in year out, and nearly all of those teams have high payrolls.

Listen, the Brewers lost these games after playing well during the year. But there is zero competitive balance when the dodgers are paying 5 aces ace money, and the rest of MLB has zero, one, or two pitchers paid a comparable amount. Half the league’s fans have little reason to watch.

That does not account for the cost of running a farm system. Its not as simple as saying that they should spend more - especially coming from the team that picks up the highest % of baseballs stars from other teams.
