Why not save using plastic for the things that could not be done ANY other way, at least while we look for alternatives that will cover all of plastic’s current uses. For many things, such as packaging, the tech is there!
07.10.2025 12:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0There are so many things that cause pollution that are absolutely necessary (e.g. breathing). Why not stop/change doing the stuff that isn’t necessary so that we can save some room for those! Plus, fewer cars would likely have a great effect on how often people need their inhalers…

I enjoyed the event @betterstreetschicago.org put on featuring @nerd4cities.bsky.social, discussing transit and urbanism in Chicago. Chicago is such a great city and I was glad to see the hundreds of people there to recognize and celebrate that.

If the infrastructure is there, more people will ride bikes or walk, that's fewer cars on the road, which means less traffic.
There are environmental benefits too, but motorists care more about traffic.
I had a great time there!

It's tempting to write off each crash as a rare, tragic accident. But is there anyone alive in North America who hasn't been touched by road violence? When will we accept that there are no accidents and design our systems accordingly?
