If that is the only picture of the riots you can find - sounds like there aren’t really riots lol

Carbon offsets fail to cut global heating due to ‘intractable’ systemic problems, study says Analysis of 25 years of evidence shows most schemes are poor quality and fail to lower emissions

News that shocks no one: Carbon offsets do nothing for climate.

I like the point that has been made along the lines of plastic as well. Why not save using plastic for the things that could not be done ANY other way, at least while we look for alternatives that will cover all of plastic’s current uses. For many things, such as packaging, the tech is there!

There are so many things that cause pollution that are absolutely necessary (e.g. breathing). Why not stop/change doing the stuff that isn’t necessary so that we can save some room for those! Plus, fewer cars would likely have a great effect on how often people need their inhalers…

Bike lane invasion sparks Chicago motorist revolt Mayor Johnson's multi-million-dollar bike lane plan is creating a rift in Chicago, as motorists struggle with increased traffic and lost parking.

I enjoyed the event @betterstreetschicago.org put on featuring @nerd4cities.bsky.social, discussing transit and urbanism in Chicago. Chicago is such a great city and I was glad to see the hundreds of people there to recognize and celebrate that.

Good bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure actually makes things *easier* for cars.

If the infrastructure is there, more people will ride bikes or walk, that's fewer cars on the road, which means less traffic.

There are environmental benefits too, but motorists care more about traffic.

For real this is a big reason I avoid driving whenever possible. I just don't want to live with that risk!

In fact, cyclists take cars off the road - so a world with no bicycles would probably have a lot more car traffic!

You can't ride a bike for 6 months out of the year. Only 12 months out of the year. Anyone who has ever gotten into riding bikes knows that it isn't something you can stop part of the year. So in a way they are right!

It's tempting to write off each crash as a rare, tragic accident. But is there anyone alive in North America who hasn't been touched by road violence? When will we accept that there are no accidents and design our systems accordingly?

YouTube video by RMTransit The Transit Accessibility Problem (w/ @urbanmobilityexplained)

Bravo to @rmtransit.bsky.social for platforming Urban Mobility Explained with an excellent video on a subject that requires quite a bit more attention: the experience of fat people on public transportation. Accessibility for everyone should be the forefront of any effort to provide mobility.

Unfortunately since it is a prequel, if they humanized the gorn this early it would make the approach in the original series confusing. There is also a precedent for the twist. But I agree - I really wanted that gorn to be their (and my) new best friend.
