Just like that, there’s a chill in the air. The field has faded, the hermit thrushes are gone, and the hummingbirds are draining the feeders fast in preparation for their own journey. Our friend summer has turned a corner.

There’s something humbling and sacred about seeing trampled plants where a deer gave birth to her fawn and left it, safely hidden, while she went foraging for food and distracting potential predators. The milkweed is already bouncing back, ready for its role as monarch nursery. Nature, I tell ya.
