The bigotry is in expecting very little from disadvantaged students. That is wrong. Yes, of course some will need extra support and accommodations to achieve high standards but we should give those instead of writing them off.

Bar models or something pictorial so you don't have to do that?

Definitely. To get 5, you need to know almost everything on the Foundation spec really well (but don't bother learning exact trig values). To get 4, nail down f d p r but don't bother with any trig at all. To get 6, you need all the Foundation stuff and about half the Higher.

I am a Maths teacher. I am compelled to drive an ancient banger. I have rarely driven anything less than 10 years old and probably never will again. I do have to get to work though.

Not at all, but if the installation itself is noisy and uninhibited performance art, the etiquette is surely a bit different.

No... it's golf, who cares (sorry). Can we have some football or cricket stats please?

We do get an astonishing number of emails, many of which are not relevant to our child. Another thing that's really surprising to see 'from the other side'

Yes for some schools, but not in mine. Our rules (or at least the enforcement of them) are if anything too lax. We are however seeing more and more parents thinking their child is too delicate and special to have to follow the rules. Possibly a post covid thing?

No. The standard of the top brass bands in England is excellent.

I don't think my HoD has seen any of that money either. Disappointing but not surprising! There is absolutely no way any of our learners would buy a new, expensive calculator just for Core Maths.

I am teaching AQA option C (graphical methods). Our students just have their GCSE calculators. I suppose you might get a slight advantage having a graphing calculator but don't really think it's needed or worth it. For the stats option - idk if the A level type calculator would help or not needed

Lol! Some of them have written books too. Or gone into politics.

I am not of the "educational left" but as a 'lifer' I have always found the whole flavour of Teach First vaguely insulting. Plus, is it actually value for money if most of them do 3 years, then leave?
